Looking back to the beginning

While setting up the 2017 blog I thought how fast time has passed since the first Dispatch from the Road in 2012. There's nothing we can do about time, it waits for no one. We can only cherish our memories and live each new day to the fullest.
For any readers who have just started following the blog, after the 2012 cross country trip Millie and I never parted and were married in April 2013. The following picture and text are from that first blog posting in 2012.

Millie and I haven’t yet found the right description of our relationship. At this phase of life, boyfriend, girlfriend and all those titles the younger set uses just don’t sound right. We are soul mates that’s for sure; we share the same interests, values, and beliefs . We've traveled some of the same life's highways, both the good times and the hardships, but we refuse to let anything stop us from enjoying what life brings today.  Let’s just say we are quite fond of one another.

We are both from the midAtantic states. Millie was born and bred southern, she lived most of her life in Virginia. Having spent most of my time in the border states of Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland I never thought much about the north and South but everyone in my new home of South Carolina says I'm a Yankee. Actually, they consider anyone who didn't join the Confederacy to be a Yankee The fact that I lived for a time and my son was born in Savannah Georgia not withstanding, I,ll always be from the north. Both of us are widowed after long marriages, we each have one married child and two grandchildren. We both now live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina and it was here on the beach that we met.

A few months ago we came up with the idea to travel across the country in my motorhome. In January we did a compatibility test run too Florida. Millie has a camping history and we were confident that we would be good travel mates, but you never know. Living in the confines of an RV during our Florida trip was a success and we started seriously planning the cross country trip.
Setting up this blog is part of the preparation; our departure date is approximately May 6. We’ll post more as we prepare for the trip.

And we're still living, happily ever after!
